Christian Körner is a Professor emeritus of Botany, who performed the first natural forest CO2 enrichment experiment (near Basel). He was responsible for the elevated CO2 working group in the GCT project of IGBP, contributed to IPCC assessment reports and chaired the Swiss climate change program. He published more than 300 ISI papers and several books (h-index 136), is the highest cited author in plant ecology of Switzerland, a member of several academies of science, and holds two doctorates h.c. Beyond his research on carbon relations and global change, Körner is world-known for alpine plant ecology and treeline research.
